Chelmsford City were held at home as Dartford made it all to play for in the second leg on Sunday.

Neither side could find a break through as Chelmsford and Dartford clashed in the first leg of the Vanarama National League South play-off semi final.

Rod Stringer made one change to the side that ended the normal League season on Saturday at Hungerford, as Max Cornhill was replaced by Max Porter, with the midfielder making his first start after an injury.

The visitors also made a single change as Duane Ofori-Acheampong entered play in replace of Andy Pugh.

Chelmsford had their first raid on Deren Ibrahim’s goal as Robbie Willmott shot from 20-yards through a crowded box, however his effort went agonisingly wide at a packed Melbourne Community Stadium.

Louie Theophanous also came close for the Clarets as Willmott’s chipped cross spotted the striker, with Theophanous’ ingenious chop forcing a sublime save from Ibrahim.

The visitors fought back though, however tricky winger Luke Wanadio was unable to pick out a team-mate as he flashed his cross along the box.

Chelmsford continued to go in search for a goal to send them into the half-time interval ahead, but could not quite gain composure when in-front of goal.

Chris Dickson came agonisingly close when his volleyed effort flinched the crossbar from range, before Theophanous could not quite smash the ball home from close range moments later.

The visitors briefly threatened from a deep freekick which got behind the City defence but they managed to gather their composure and quickly clear the threat.

Both sides continued their search for an opener and City came close when another Willmott corner bounced around the box without a Claret being able to grab a finishing touch.

The two sides gave it their all in the dying moments but the game ended level as they entered the second leg at Princes Road with it all to play for.
