Chelmsford City reached the final of the BBC Essex Senior Cup with a convincing 4-0 victory over Heybridge Swifts at the Melbourne Community Stadium.

Two quick-fire goals from Kane Haysman and Chris Dickson put the Clarets in the ascendancy, before a headed goal from Max Cornhill sealed City’s place in the final. An own-goal from Philip Anderson gave the hosts a fourth but the result had been without any doubt.

The first chance of the game came on a single minute as Adam Yusuff darted between Max Cornhill and Michael Spillane, however the striker was unable to keep his shot down when he became one-on-one with Ross Fitzsimons.

The Clarets almost equalised shortly afterwards but Chris Dickson was unable to poke the ball over the line from close-range.

A flat first-half ended with the Clarets still on top, just awaiting a goal to take the lead.

The second-half ran in opposite fashion to the first as two goals in four-minutes ended any chance of a comeback. Kane Haysman gave the Clarets a lead when his diving header flew past Danny Sambridge after Luke Daley picked out the winger.

The City goalscorer swapped roles by setting up City’s second. The speedy winger darted past Guillem Ramon before sending the ball to the far-post where Dickson calmly tapped into an empty net.

The hosts increased their advantage when Haysman grabbed his second assist of the evening by picking out Cornhill in a crowded box, with the central midfielder placing his header beyond Sambridge.

The game became even worse for the visitors when a wayward backpass from Anderson managed to beat his own-keeper, sending City well and truly into the final.
