Young centre-back Harry Hickford is looking forward to getting some more minutes under his belt at the Clarets after a ‘Man of the Match’ display on his City debut.
Harry, on-loan from Sky Bet League One side Milton Keynes Dons for the rest of the season, put in an impressive performance in the all-important 0-0 draw with play-off chasing Havant and Waterlooville, prompting praise from manager Mark Hawkes.
The City boss said: “He was fantastic. He only signed on and trained Thursday night, but what a debut! The lad’s strong, quick and makes good decisions for his age and a very positive debut.”
And Hickford, 17, is relishing the opportunity given to him by Chelmsford City and hopes to get some more clean-sheets under his belt. He commented: “It was nice to get the clean-sheet and obviously three points would have been perfect but I couldn’t ask for any more than a clean sheet on my debut.
“All the lads said it was a struggle but we did the best we could and it was a shame we couldn’t nick a goal.
“Hopefully, if the gaffer keeps picking me, I’d love to keep playing.
“I’m here to help consolidate the defence and I want to do the best for the team, get more clean-sheets, win more games and we’ll stay up.”
