CHELMSFORD City’s hat-trick hero, Elliott Buchanan, was delighted to bag three points and the match ball from the New Year's Day derby success at Bishop’s Stortford. Nevertheless, the frontman was quick to share the credit for the Clarets classy display at the ProKit UK Stadium.
“Things got off to a flying start with Robbie Willmott’s delivery into the box. You are always going to get chances and I was able to get on the end of it, it was a great cross. I think it just all started off there.
“Our aim was to get an early goal. You can really push on from an early goal and try to get a couple more in.
“Sometimes you get the feeling and you see little openings and think that it’s a game where you will definitely get opportunities. It is obviously down to yourself to finish them off.”
Buchanan pointed out the role the supporters have played in the Clarets recent success, adding: “The fans have been great all year. We respect the backing that they give us and hope we can keep putting on performances like that. Their support gives us a great lift. If they stick with us I’m sure we will do well.”
Despite bagging a treble against his former club, Buchanan spoke fondly of City’s local rivals, adding: “I’ve got the utmost respect for this club. They were great to me last season. But I’m at Chelmsford City now and I’ve got a job to do and that’s to score goals. I was able to do that today, but was happy to get the six points from the two games.”
