Chelmsford City 2 Woking 0

By

Chelmsford City got back to winning ways at home to Woking thanks to goals from Rhys Murphy and Adrian Cascaval

The Clarets did their play-off chances no harm as they were victorious over fellow promotion hopefuls, Woking.

The visitors started the game brightly and it took them only 25 seconds to create the first chance of the game. Greg Luer was played through the Chelmsford defence one-on-one with Nathan McDonald, forcing the goalkeeper into making a smart save.

It did not take Chelmsford long to create their first chance of the game either. Rhys Murphy chested the ball down nicely, teeing up Chris Whelpdale for a shot, but his effort sailed over the bar after 3 minutes.

Woking ruined a glorious chance to take the lead on the 12th minute. A Woking free-kick was played deep into the Chelmsford box and Jack Cook was unmarked at the back post. His effort, however, went sideways rather than forwards and Chelmsford eventually won a goal-kick.

Woking continued to press and created their second big chance of the game on the 14th minute. Greg Luer was involved once again as he rode the challenges of Mickey Spillane and Adrian Cascaval, but Nathan McDonald did well to close the striker down as he saw his effort blaze over the bar.

Chelmsford struggled to really create anything clear cut, with Chris Whelpdale and Jonny Giles both having efforts from far out going just wide of the post.

Rhys Murphy had Chelmsford's first real chance of the game in the 27th minute. He picked the ball from the air and controlled well. The striker then turned towards goal and saw his effort go narrowly wide from just outside the Woking box.

It was Chelmsford who took the lead on the 43rd minute, which was arguably against the run of play. Defender, Joe Anderson won an aerial duel freeing Rhys Murphy in-between the Woking defence. A mix-up between their defence and Craig Ross meant the striker could round the keeper and finish into an empty net, despite Moussa Diarra’s efforts to prevent the ball from going in.

Woking came close to equalising in added time in the first-half with Diarra forcing McDonald into making another good save and Jack Cook smashing a header against the bar following the corner before referee, Lewis Smith blew for Half-Time.

Woking started the second half the strongest again and came close on the 48th minute through Armani Little. The winger rounded McDonald but took the ball too far away from goal to shoot. He got a cross away, which was deflected past McDonald, but Adrian Cascaval was there at the back post to clear off the line.

Chelmsford came close to doubling their lead through Mickey Spillane just after 51 minutes. The hosts' won a corner which was taken by Isaac towards the near post and defender, Spillane headed just wide of the post.

Chelmsford made their first substitution on the 69th minute as goalscorer Rhys Murphy made way for Jordan Chiedozie.

Chez Isaac tested Woking's Craig Ross with a well drilled free-kick, forcing the keeper to get down low to save with his feet on the 71st minute.

The following corner saw Chelmsford score a second through Adrian Cascaval as the defender scored his third goal of the season on the 72nd minute. Chez Isaac whipped the ball into the box and the Moldovan rose highest to head past Ross.

Woking responded and made their first substitution as Allassani replaced Ferry just after 73 minutes.

City made their second substitution of the game on 78 minutes as Lamar Reynolds replaced Chris Whelpdale.

Nathan McDonald continued to be the hero in-between the sticks for Chelmsford as he denied Max Kretzschmar’s free-kick that was destined for the top corner on 76 minutes.

Woking had small shouts for a penalty waved away after Max Kretzschmar went down under pressure from Nathan McDonald on the 82nd minute.

Jonny Giles came close to adding a third for Chelmsford on 83 minutes. Jordan Chiedozie did well to loop the ball over the top of the Woking defence and the winger latched onto the ball, running at goal into the Woking box, but saw his effort go agonisingly wide.

Woking made their second substitution on the 84th minute as Bradbury replaced Cadogan, who had been made to look very quiet by the Chelmsford defence.

Bradbury was immediately involved for Woking a minute later as Little's cross found the attacker in the Chelmsford box, but his header went well over the bar without troubling Nathan McDonald.

5 minutes were added on at the end of the second-half and Chelmsford started to find more space as the game came to a close with Woking putting more men forward in search of a goal back.

It was then Chelmsford's turn to have penalty shouts waved away by the referee in added time. Lamar Reynolds was played through one-on-one with Craig Ross and seemed to be taken out from behind by Moussa Diarra before he could get a shot away, much to the dismay of the striker.

Chelmsford finally made their final substitution in the 3rd minute of added time as Jazzi Barnum-Bobb replaced outstanding winger, Jonny Giles to a standing ovation.

The Clarets were saw the game out comfortably and claimed all 3 points, meaning Torquay United were crowned as National League South Champions.
