Clarets victorious on Parkside

Chelmsford City maintained their run of form as they beat an impressive Aveley team 0-3 at Parkside.

Bagasan Graham’s tapped shot three minutes before the interval put the Clarets ahead after they dominated the first half, Luke Daley then sealed the visitors’ victory with a sliding shot with eight minutes left, before Dickson then added a third right at the death, tapping home Daley's cross to round off an entertaining affair.

City boss Rod Stringer was forced to name a make-shift team in his return to his former employers, with the Clarets Chief having to name Max Porter as part of a five-man defence as Craig Braham-Barrett and Bagasan Graham took positions as wing-backs.

The Clarets came close to netting early on when Mike West won the ball on the right wing, however his cross into the box was headed wide by Shaun Batt. A period of strong possession from the visitors created another chance but the final cross was poor and failed to find a City player.

Thomas Hitchcock came close to netting when he received the ball out-wide before initiating a run into the box, however the striker shot over after beating two defenders to find space. The hosts had their first attempt when George Doyle shot towards goal, but his effort from range went over and did not trouble Beasant.

Aveley made their first change of the evening after 38 minutes, with the hosts being forced into a defensive change following an injury.

As the half edged towards it’s conclusion the visitors took the lead. Batt did exceptionally well to round the defender on the right wing before drilling a cross to the far post where Graham tapped home after Hitchcock saw his effort blocked.

A defensive mistake from Rhys Madden almost cost the Millers, however Braham-Barrett was unable to poke home from a tight angle under pressure after the hosts’ ‘keeper dropped the ball. The full-back then drove a shot into Madden’s hands after squirming into space inside the area.

On the hour-mark Stringer made his first rotations to the team that started. Daniel Green, Michael Spillane and Dickson all came on, while Mike West, Max Porter and Shaun Batt retired to the bench after their sixty-minute workout.

Further substitutions saw the introduction of Jake Jessup, Jonny Giles, Matthew Johnson and Luke Daley. The latter came close to doubling City’s lead when he connected with Scott Davies’ cross, however the winger was leaning backwards and his shot rocketed over.

A tussle between Daley and the hosts’ left winger resulted in the Millers being awarded a freekick, however the hosts missed their chance to level as the loose ball was not tapped home before City cleared away.

Daley doubled the visitors lead with eight minutes left. The substitute striker reeled away from his marker and slid home a left-wing cross from Giles to seal victory at Parkside. Dickson then added a third seconds before the full-time whistle, arriving at the far post to turn Daley's drag-back over the line.
