Clarets maintain unbeaten pre-season record
Rod Stringer's Chelmsford kept their unbeaten pre-season record intact after beating Brightlingsea Regent 3-1.
The Clarets entered the half-time interval slightly on the back-foot against a well-built Brightlingsea Regent side, with the hosts rarely threatening but proving to deal with their National League South opposition comfortably.
The visitors had a number of half chances in the first half, but a sudden inability to pass accurately upon entrance to the final third ended any potential chances to score.
Stringer's side eventually took the lead midway through the second half as Michael Spillane powered home from Michael West's corner. The City defender rose highest in a crowded box on 49 minutes to power home his second goal during the Clarets' pre-season campaign.
Mass changes occured on sixty minutes as Rod Stringer provided a welcomed break to the starters, introducing a full set of eleven players on the hour-mark to play the remaining thirty minutes at a wet North Road.
But one of the first things the Clarets' trialist goalkeeper had to was pick the ball out the net. The hosts were awarded a contentious penalty which saw very few appeals, however Aaron Condon stepped up to calmly slot home.
Six minutes later the visitors restored their lead. Youngster Hugo Skepelhorn reacted quickly to a neat through ball and threaded a shot under the hosts' goalkeeper.
The result was confirmed late on in the second half as Haysman neatly tucked home Shaun Batt's back-heel on 89 minutes.
