Report from the clarets 65 games at little Oakley
On a lovely sunny day we opened our first game against a strong Harwich team packed with power we dealt with them with firm defending and a strategy of our forwards holding the ball up.
Harwich never had it all there way. We created some good chances our self with Kevin Anderson being denied by save by there keeper. The game finished in a draw without conceding.
Our second game was against our very own Chelmsford blues. It was a good game we kept our shape defended well created some chances and the game ended goalless.
Last but not least we played Paringdon pirates and we matched them with good defending and some really good football, creating some really good chances once again we held out finishing a goalless draw.
In conclusion three draws three points a good days work well done Alex being our Captain having his usual solid game and its hard to pick out the hero of the day. But in my opinion Smudge was great in goal and every player played in a Spirit of encouragement which resulted in big Dave having his best game ever in a Chelmsford shirt
MIXED MORNING FOR CHELMSFORD BLUES
On a lovely, late spring morning Chelmsford Blues travelled to the far north east of the county to play three 65+ league games and were warmly welcomed by our hosts Little Oakley. With no substitutes being available the team were unable to make any changes during the matches.
Blues squad: Chris Jullings (GK), George Keogh, Jim Prophet, Colin Haydon, Gerry Howard, Terry Buck (C).
Chelmsford Blues 1 : 0 Parrington Pirates
In the opening encounter Blues were awarded a penalty midway through the first half and Colin smashed home the spot kick for the only goal of the game. Blues had more of the ball as the game was played at a good pace but just couldn’t find the back of the net from open play with Chris solid between the sticks on the odd occasion when the Pirates threatened. Blues held fast when Terry received a two minute blue card with Gerry & Jim making valuable blocks to prevent a reply from the Pirates.
Chelmsford Clarets 0 : 0 Chelmsford Blues
As usual this was a hard fought match between the two Chelmsford sides which Blues dominated but the Clarets were resolute at the back with keeper “Smudger” Smith pulling off several outstanding saves from Gerry & Colin. Late in the game Terry was through on goal and just about to pull the trigger when he was caught by a late tackle from Ian defending desperately for the Clarets. The resulting free kick was unconverted and shortly after the ref blew for yet another 0 : 0 draw between the City teams.
Chelmsford Blues 0 : 1 Little Oakley
Our hosts were their usual difficult opposition and this game was finely balanced throughout. Colin & Gerry were covering every blade of (artificial) grass, Chris was organising the defence while Jim & George were keeping the opponents attack under wraps. When a Blues attack broke down the ball somehow found it’s way to the Little Oakley forward who managed to slip the ball under Chris for the lead. The Oakley keeper made a couple of fine saves from George either side of half time and kept out further attempts from Colin & Terry to deny Blues an equaliser.
The failure to find the back of the net is proving costly to Blues as they were in with a shout of winning all 3 games today but lack of goals is hampering their chances of making a serious move up the table. The spirit of the team remains high and we just need to turn the chances into goals & points.
