Match report 10th July 2018 Norwich Soca Seniors WFA Cup
We had a day out in Norwich on Tuesday. It wasn’t as warm as late and benefited from the sea breeze. We had a few dramas the day before when 2 of our players had to drop out as either sick or injured including our keeper, which left us with only 6 players. I consulted with the WFA and found in the small print that we could have a goalkeeper over 60. I then recruited Chris Jullings who came at the last minute. Thank you also to David roast who also offered his services at last minute as keeper.
Our 7 players were Gerry Howard©, Chris Jullings(gk), Bill Harvey, John Stratton, Terry Buck, David Clarke, Terry Owers.
We kicked off at 11:00 full of enthusiasm. We all played well with Chris in goal. Gerry and Bill in defence, John and Terry O in midfield with Terry B and David up front. We had a few chances in the first half but were caught out on 2 occasions when they broke through the middle. The game was a bit more physical than the usual 65 EWFL matches said Terry B the third time he had to be helped up. We ended the first half 2-0 down.
After a pep talk from our captain and keeper we came out raring to go, and the longer the game went on the more we improved. Our goal came when Gerry played a lovely ball down the left touch line to Terry B up front, Terry drew the defender and passed back to John who came forward, Terry then turned inside and took the one-two and beat the keeper at the near post. But a bit like England we couldn’t just get the equaliser even though we had most of the play from then on. Their goalie even dropped the ball and it rolled out of the area, both Terry B and the defender went for it and Terry tried to chip him, without success. The goalie even admitted afterwards that he did stray out of the area with the save. But no penalty was given.
We had a great day and there were a few moans about the Lady referee, but in general I think she was pretty fair to both teams in my opinion. Apart from she allowed too much tackling from behind.
We then enjoyed a lunch in the clubhouse, all paid for by Norwich.
