Chelmsford second in the tournament with all the goals you want

Eastwood Falcons Tournament Wednesday 14th February
Len Forge Centre, Southend On Sea

Clarets first match in this friendly tournament was against Eastwood Falcons Yellow. As normal we were slow starters and although we applied early pressure Eastwood scored first and from then onwards we were always chasing the game Eastwood were clinical in front of goal and added two more goals to become 3-0 winners

Clarets went into the next game against Concord changing their formation from 2 2 1 to 2 1 2 and this seemed to work better Clarets were 1 0 winners in a scrappy game Brian Thomas scored the late goal but debutant keeper Geoff Stockley made a brilliant save in a one on one situation However Geoff injured his knee and Bill Sedgwick took over goalkeeping duties for the next two games. The signs were that the team were starting to find their form

Southend Reds were the victims of a fine Mark Elnaugh hat trick as Clarets dominated the next game to win 3-0 .The engine of the team was well and truly up and running

In the next game against Southend Blacks Clarets came up against a young and agile keeper who made a string of fine saves Eventually from a fine Alan Oliver cross Mark Elnaugh swept a first time shot home to produce a 1-0 win

Geoff Stockley was back in goal for the next game against Eastwood second team and produced a couple of great saves. Alan Oliver missed an early penalty and it was left to Mark to poach a late winner for a 1-0 win

Clarets finished second one point behind Eastwood Yellows

A fine team performance

Gary Murphy - A colossus at the back holding together clarets defence and was seen in the last game venturing into the opposition half
Jim Prophet -Ever dependable tidy performance
Bill Sedgwick - Took one for the team going in goal, unlucky to be denied by the post with a left foot screamer
Dave Roast -Struggling with injury but still put in a fine shift
Alan Oliver - Grew in confidence and caused teams problems down the righthand side
Brian Thomas - High energy performance slotting into any position as required
Geoff Stockley - Star man, denied the opposition in a brave performance
Mark Elnaugh - Had a good day due to team mates fine creative play
