Blues Team Report:

Considering that the Chelmsford Blues were a man short in their squad they were outstanding in their performances throughout the tournament, The Blues played six friendly matches, losing one, winning one and drawing four. The team had not previously played together but got themselves organised into a hard to beat unit . Gil in goal stopped nearly everything that came his way, Richard, Ray and Dave in defence/midfield were solid at the back and worked tirelessly throughout. Brian (Thomas) and Alan also worked hard in midfield to provide the basis of attacks as well as helping out the defence when needed. Brian, as the lone striker up front, held the ball up well and got in some good strikes on goal. First game against Little Oakley ended in a 0-0 draw with the Blues defence in no mood to concede a goal. Second game against Southend also ended 0-0 with the Blues looking the better team and starting to create more chances up front. Third game 0-0 again with the Blues defence looking unbeatable. Fourth game was against Chelmsford Clarets with the Blues determined that the Clarets would not score. A great goal by Ray put the Blues into the lead, and after a missed penalty by Clarets and some great defending, the Blues came out winners 1-0. The fifth game was against Little Oakley Blues who seemed to be the favourites to win the tournament. The Blues again put up a great performance but two defensive mistakes cost them dear and were unlucky to fall to their only defeat by 2-1. The last game was against Falcon Yellows and another goal less draw from the Blues who were now beginning to look jaded by their magnificent efforts earlier

Claret Team Report:

Clarets had a reasonable day, coming joint second overall on the day result. They won 2, drew 1 and lost 1 of their league matches. Unfortunately, we lost to Little Oakley Blues, even though we were 1 up, and that could cost us the title. We only had 7 players and we all played well. Mark did a sterling job in goal with Jim, George and David doing very well in defence. Peter and Spence controlled the midfield, and Spence got most of the goals. Peter, Terry and David all added to the list. 11 goals in all, and Terry must have hit the keeper like a magnet at least another 6 times and both him and Spence hit the woodwork. Reasonable day at the office, well done lads

Well done all of the teams
