Concord Rangers Preview: Clarets travel to Concord for Essex Derby

By Matt Lee

Chelmsford City travel to Concord Rangers for the first Essex Derby of the season.

“It’s two teams who will both have some tired legs and maybe the squad rotation will be the little difference.” Rod Stringer

The Clarets travel to the Aspect Arena in good spirits having won each of their two previous Vanarama National League South, as well as holding a 100% away record.

A 2-0 win at the Melbourne Community Stadium against Truro City made good preparations for Chelmsford, however the Clarets will be keen to improve on their goals scored tally having missed a number of chances at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Concord Rangers were on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline at League leaders St Albans, Steve Cawley scored the only goal for the Beachboys.

Team news

The Clarets may give a full debut to Daniel Green after he signed ahead of the Truro City match, the winger came on as a substitute midway through the second half on Saturday. Elliot Omuzusi and Jonny Giles could also make returns having sat out the game yesterday.

View from the camp

Rod Stringer spoke of his delight having got another three points, but the City boss felt that squad depth may prove the deciding fixture tomorrow afternoon.

“They had a tough game at St Albans and it’ll be another tough one. It’s two teams who will both have some tired legs and maybe the squad rotation will be the little difference.

“It’s down to us to get out the blocks quickly, know we’re in a battle and hopefully we can get over the line and win the game.

“We’ve had three good performances but Monday was our worst at home since I’ve been at the Club.” Rod Stringer said. “We go again. Some of the players need to pull their socks up and realise this will be a tough game and that they need to be better.”
