The 24-year-old defender returns to the Club for his second spell after leaving two seasons ago.
Young departed the Melbourne Community Stadium at the end of the 2016-17 season, scoring once from his fourteen appearances in all competitions.
Having begun his career with Southampton, Young earned a professional contract with the Saints in 2012. He wasn’t able to break into the first team though at St. Mary’s and subsequently signed for Sheffield Wednesday before having a loan spell at Carlisle United.
The Romford-born defender is assured all across the back line. Mostly used as a right-back, Young is proficient in playing left-back and as a centre half so will prove a very useful addition for City boss Rod Stringer.
Along with Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Carlisle, Young has had spells at Kidderminster Harriers, Dover Athletic and Billericay Town.
Last term Young made 41 appearances for Woking as the Cards were relegated from The National League.
Everyone at Chelmsford City Football Club looks forward to welcoming Matt back to the Melbourne Community Stadium.
