“I just want to say thank you to everyone at Chelmsford City for a great season. Without the players, staff and fans I couldn’t achieve what I did this year.”
The experienced winger joined the Clarets at the start of the season and became a fan-favourite as his numerous assists saw him aid the Club up the Vanarama National League South table.
Willmott's form throughout the season proved influential in the Clarets' promotion push and led to the tricky winger being named as part of the Vanarama National League South Team of the Year 2016-17.
The former Newport County and Cambridge United wide-man joined as the designated Supporters’ Club 12th-man fund player, with the 27-year-old scoring four times in 47 appearances during his first season at the Melbourne Community Stadium.
Speaking prior to his departure, the winger sent a thank you message to the Claret Army: “Unfortunately, I won’t be signing a new contract with the Club. An opportunity has come up which I cannot turn down.
“Thank you once again, it has been a pleasure playing for such a great football club.”
Chelmsford City Football Club wishes Robbie all the best in the future and thanks him for his services over the past year.
