Having impressed since coming to the Clarets on-trial - including scoring against Grays Athletic in tonight's friendly, the Club are pleased to have agreed terms with Murphy for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
Murphy began his career with Wimbledon before switching sides in London to Arsenal. The 6ft 1in striker remained with Arsenal - albeit apart from two loan spells at Brentford and Preston North End - between 2009 and 2012.
The 27-year-old traded English football for Dutch football when he signed for Telstar in June 2012, before signing for Dagenham & Redbridge, Oldham Athletic, Crawley Town (loan) and AFC Wimbledon (loan).
The former Republic of Ireland and England youth international moved to Forest Green Rovers in July 2016 but, with first-team chances limited, the striker opted for temporary moves to York City, Crawley Town and Torquay United, before eventually joining Gillingham in January 2018.
All at Chelmsford City Football Club look forward to welcoming Rhys to the Melbourne Community Stadium.
