Church and Merrifield Sign from Stortford

By Scott Hatley

CHELMSFORD CITY are pleased to announce the signings of Anthony Church and Frankie Merrifield from Bishop’s Stortford.

Rod Stringer has gone back to his former Club to bring in club-captain, Anthony Church and Frankie Merrifield to bolster City’s midfield as the Clarets squad begins to take shape.

Church returns to the club having had a brief spell with the Clarets in 2012, but due to work commitments he made only six appearances for City, scoring once.

The midfielder has also had spells at Dagenham & Redbridge, Boston United and Grimsby Town. He joined Stortford from Chelmsford in 2013 and went on to become their club captain.

Merrifield is a another midfielder who’s had spells at AFC Wimbledon and Hayes and Yeading before joining Stortford in October 2014, scoring on his debut against Eastbourne Borough.

Whilst at AFC Wimbledon, Merrifield made a handful of appearances for the Dons, scoring his first senior goal in the Football League Trophy tie against Southend United.
