Chelmsford City, the club that we know as today, was formed in 1938 as a professional side. The Romans, meanwhile, were formed 49 years prior in 1889.
There have been 83 meetings between the two teams overall, with seventy-seven coming in League competitions. However there has been only one FA Cup meeting against the Romans, a tie the Somerset side won 2-1.
Last season’s pairings between the two sides saw City draw 2-2 in the November meeting at Twerton Park while ten-man Chelmsford came from a goal behind to win 3-1 in April thanks to an own goal and strikes from Michael Spillane and Louie Theophanous.
