PEN PICTURES - DEFENDERS
Lee PROTHEROE – 31 years old right sided full back or midfield player who joined City in the summer of 2007 following his release by Margate. His previous clubs include Walthamstow Pennant, St. Margaretsbury, Ruislip Manor, Yeading, Enfield, Aldershot, Canvey Island, for whom he made 16 appearances in their 2003-2004 Ryman league championship season, and Gravesend and Northfleet.
Andy DUNCAN – Joined City in the summer of 2007 after 9 years with Cambridge United. An England Schoolboy International he joined Manchester United in July 1996 but was transferred to Cambridge United for £20,000 in January 1998 without making a first team appearance for the Old Trafford club. Made nearly 300 appearances for Cambridge United before his release. Aged 29.
Aidan COLLINS – Just 20 years of age he was originally with Ipswich Town for whom he made 5 first team appearances. Had spells on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Stockport County before joining Cambridge United in June 2007. Was released at the end of the season and joined Chelmsford.
Steve WARD – Veteran defender now aged 36. he joined Canvey Island in October 1996 from Grays Athletic, having come through that club’s youth ranks, for a fee of £3,000 having made over 400 first team appearances for Grays. Was at Canvey for 10 years, before joining Chelmsford in the summer of 2006. Has appeared for the England National Game XI.
Chris DUFFY – 33 years of age originally with Crewe Alexandra, although he did not appear in their first team. Transferred to Wigan Athletic where he made 31 appearances before moving on to Northwich Victoria in November 1994 for whom he made over 150 appearances. He joined Canvey Island during the 1999/2000 season and helped them in their drive towards the Conference National. Switched to Chelmsford in the summer of 2006. Has appeared for the England National Game XI. Can play at full back or in mid field.
Spencer KNIGHT – 30 years old left sided midfielder who upon completion of his University studies joined Hoddesdon Town before moving to Arlesey Town where he won a Spartan League Championship medal. Was snapped up by Isthmian League side St. Albans City and later Harrow Borough. After joining City in the summer of 2006 he was injured during pre season and did not therefore make his debut until September 2006. Has also played for Canvey Island, from whom he joined Chelmsford, Margate and Leyton.
Stuart AINSLEY – Aged 19 years he joined Chelmsford upon his release from the Ipswich Town academy in the summer of 2006. An attacking and stylish left full back he can also play in mid field. He made 34 appearances for the club last season.
