A.F.C. Wimbledon 1-2 Chelmsford City, Tuesday 9th January 2007, The Fans' Stadium, Kick-Off 7:45pm, Ryman League Premier Division.
A full Match Report will appear here shortly..... City moved three points clear at the top of the Ryman League Premier Division with a momentous 2-1 victory at A.F.C. Wimbledon in front of a 2,471 crowd at Kingsmeadow. Jeff Minton and Ricky Holmes netted within 19 minutes for Jeff King’s side and a Roscoe D’Sane penalty early in the second half was not enough for the Dons to fully fight back as a spell of late pressure was soaked-up by a heroic Clarets defence. Minton got his head to a right wing cross in the 17th minute to bundle the ball over the line and this was followed within two minutes by a splendid run and finish from Ricky Holmes who sprinted and struck just inside the post from outside the box. Just after the interval goalkeeper Richard McKinney brought down D’Sane in the area to give away a spot-kick which the striker converted himself though their efforts to level were thwarted, particularly as impressive defender Steve Ward headed the ball off his own goal line as seconds remained. City now focus on another massive fixture on Saturday at third-placed Bromley’s Hayes Lane ground. The Clarets are six points clear of the Kent side but a further hard-working performance is required to stay out of the reaches of Margate in second. City: 1 Richard McKinney A.F.C.
